Camera Setup
Locations
The positions of the camera are important to the success directing of production. Think of the cameras positions from the director's point of view:
- Camera 1 - Left. Closest to the studio entrance door.
- Camera 2 - Center. Somewhere in the middle, between the two cameras.
- Camera 3 - Right. Closest to the fire exit door.
A fourth camera is an optional.
Setup
If necessary, unwind the camera cables and lay neatly on the floor. Position the cameras as described about.
Connection
The three studio cameras have multiple cables connected to them. The cables are bundled together through an umbilical cord. The ends of the cable that is connected to the wall have numbers to indicate as to which camera it belongs to. Ensure that each camera is still connected to the correctly numbered ports.
Each camera will have 3 wires hooked to them:
- Power
Located on the back/middle of the camera. They are small black power plugs. The end near the wall can be plugged into any power pack.
- S-Video
This cable provides the signal from the camera into the control room. It is important that it's correctly matched with the plug near the wall. The S-Video plug has four pins and a polarization tip. It is connected to the camera on the right hand side near the top. The camera has SVIDEO marked next to the socket. The end near the wall is connected via a S-Video to S-Video coupler. Ensure the number of the camera matches up correctly with the wires and plugs.
- LED
Each camera has a tally light that is used to indicate what camera is live and which camera is next. A molex connector is used to make the connection at the camera and at the wall. It's important that cables be connected to the correct numbers.
An additional cable is available at each camera for headphones
- Communication
A 3.5mm socket is used to connect standard headphones. This is used to allow the director to communicate with each camera person.
Ensure that the headphones are plugged in and that the headphone volume is adjusted for good listening. The volume dial is located on the wire connected to the headphones.
The wall connection.
(Communication from the director to the headphones)
Ensure all wires are correctly connected to the cameras.
Connect each camera
Open the LED screen on the camera and turn the power on
Make sure that the video switcher is turned on in the control room and that all the cameras are displaying on the screen.
(Note: If the screen is black, check that the switcher arm is up, not in Fade to Black Mode)
White Balance
White Balance tells the camera what temperature or Color White means for the shoot. It depends on the lighting at the time. the White Balance in the current Cameras (2010) is found underneath the lense (underneath The Left side)of the camera. Focus all Cameras on a white board in the center at the front of the operation once the lights are all turned on on the set. push on the White balance button on each. they can be all done at once, or one at a time.
