Advanced Preparation for Emergencies

Getting out accurate info is hard, have contacts in place ahead because people involved in an emergency are busy. Grant funding may be available for setting up pre emergency info, public information pieces

During an Emergency

Evaluate your capabilities. If it's big, the big news coverage is happening. Get officials into the studio for Q and A, call in, put up maps of area, graphics on screen to inform public of emergency. Only put up info that comes from officials (as a pre-agreed policy). Plug in news audio on EBB.

Post Emergency

How do you distribute info in a variety of ways. Assisting with sharing info on services available to public, etc.

Develop in-house emergency training for staff and volunteers. Define rolls during an emergency and have PRACTICE DRILLS at least four times a year. Normal for emergency plans to change and evolve as a result of practice and change in personnel.

Establish pre-made templates for putting up on screen: boiler plate info, shelters, evac centers, location for sand bags etc. Get info form cities and county in digital format so easily incorporated into video format.
