Media Server Reports

Monday August 23th, 2004

Apparently there was a power outage at City Hall some time on Sunday. This effectively turned off the media server. Penn fixed the power by turning on the computer system and moving the mouse pointer of the screen.

Penn suggested that an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) would be a simple solution to this problem. However it has been my experience that most affordable UPS systems are only good for a brief period after the outage. I think a small UPS is a good idea in addition to a configuration of the media server so that it will come back online then the power is resumed. - John Cumming

Recieved a report from Penn that there was only a blue screen from 10am on MCTV 15. He and Audra are going to Mt.Shasta to investigate. I will be available via phone. -John Cumming

Upon receiving a report that the Media Server was only displaying the EBB, I made my way to Mt. Shasta to investigate. Here is what I found:

  • Show number 04-187 had an extra space in the filename for both the .mpg and the .cut files. The mpg file was named '04-187 Dogsled Interview .mpg' where as the .xml referred to '04-187 Dogsled Interview.mpg'. I renamed both the .mpg and .cut file.
  • The .xml file for show number 04-154 described the wrong show. It should have been describing 'Dunsmuir Railroad Day' were as it was describing 'Happy Foods'. I corrected the description.
  • Show number 04-114 had a space missing from the flashplay.xml file. The flashplay.xml file referred to 'Real TV' where as the show files had a space 'Real TV'.
  • Show number 04-183 had some semi-colons in it's list of times in the flashplay.xml file.

The following list of shows would not play giving the above errors.

>>> 2:00am 04-154 Dunsmuir Railroad Days 2004
>>> 4:00am 04-183 California Country #2058
>>> 7:30am 04-187 Dogsled Interview
>>> 8:00am 04-114 Real TV June 16
>>> 11:00am 04-183 California Country #2058
>>> 1:30pm 04-183 California Country #2058
>>> 4:00pm 04-187 Dogsled Interview
>>> 6:30pm 04-183 California Country #2058
>>> 8:00pm 04-114 Real TV June 16
>>> 11:00pm 04-183 California Country #2058

Another observation, the schedule on the EBB nor the website was correct for this weeks programming.

All the programming as described by Judith should now be working.
