Production Roles
Producer
- Responsible for the entire show production.
- Handles all pre-production requirements.
- Hires a director.
- Organizes content for show including talents, guests, graphics, music, set and program run-down
Director
- Responsible for the actual production of the show.
- Answers to the producer.
- Asses production staffing requirements and hires the production crew.
- Responsible for coordinating the production crew during the show.
- Makes decisions about camera framing, shot selection and overall sequencing of events.
- Cue the production crew for upcoming camera directions. Keep everyone informed about current status.
Camera Operator
- Responsible for camera operation during show.
- Understand basic operation of camera focus and framing
- Follow direction from control room via headset.
Floor Director
- Giving people on the floor directions.
- Confirm that the control room is receiving camera signals.
- Confirm that the telepromper monitors are functioning.
- Get the mics out of control room and assist talent attaching them if needed.
- Check lighting; adjust lights or talent positions if needed.
- Give talent cues.
- Return mics to control room.
- Turn off power to cameras & monitors.
- Turn off stage studio lights.
Technical Director
- Responsible for video signal flow.
- Turn power on to cameras & monitors.
- White balance, focus and frame the three cameras.
- Confirm that there is a clear video signal from four video sources.
- Confirming with the director video sources required for the production.
- Check for white balance & focus from all cameras.
- Check lighting; Have Floor Director adjust lights or anchor positions if needed.
- Confirm that the control room DVD recorders are receiving the master video and audio signal.
- Responsible for the changing of video sources using cuts and transitions.
- Shut down video production systems after the show.
Character Generator
- Responsible for creating all titles for lower thirds, show opening and closing credits.
- Responsible for cuing and playing the opening video sequence, end credits, video inserts and any video stills.
- Must understand the basic operation of the TriCaster
- Record shows to DVD master and backup as directed.
- Cue up & roll video clips.
Sound Technician
- Responsible for ALL audio production.
- Select and place appropriate microphones for the production
- Sound check each microphone and trim for levels.
- Work with the producer in preparing any music or other audio requirements for show.
- Monitor master sound meter on TriCaster and through control room speakers for proper levels during production.
- Turn off sound board and put music C Ds? away.
- Return all microphones and cables to storage location.
Talent
- Responsible for the on-camera delivery.
- Place microphone on collar of clothing.
- Count or say ABC's for Sound Technicians during sound check.
- Confirm that the teleprompters are functioning.
- "Read-through" announcements for correct pronunciation and pacing.
- Understand floor director cues: standby, voice check, quite on Set, rolling insert, play to camera number, speed-up, slow-down, adlib, cut.
- Use your individual personality in a positive manner.
Teleprompter
- Responsible for telepromter operation.
- Ensure telepromter computer and monitors are working correctly.
- Load script and review with producer. Make last minute changes.
- Monitor talents reading pace and adjust teleprompter speed as needed.
- Save changes, close program, shut off computer and monitors.
