Siskiyou Golden Fair 2010
What is your great idea?
BB - I would like to plan now for a presence at the fair next year.
I want to get a few people together that can plan, brainstorm, execute and even practice making it happen. I would like to have something like a contest with a camera set up and a backdrop like a stand up comedy club. The general public would be asked to stand and deliver their favorite joke or funny story. I would like to get them to do more than one so it takes up about six minutes per presentation. I would have forms to fill out with their name and address and email and let them know we would put the show on channel 15 an also ustream it and get the public to cast a vote on the funniest presentation.
I would like to have something notable like a laptop as the top prize or maybe something like dinner for two at the tree house or Mike and Tony's would suffice.
Nine contestants would make each program and maybe if someone wants to act as a dj, he/she could comment on each performance and/or introduce each.
It would be great if we could set up a phone number that charges fifty cents per vote or do the voting via the website and get advertisers , I dunno but with enough brainstorming and planning we could accompolish a number of things at once.
- Name exposure at the fair and a fun memory for the players.
- A mailing list for information and requests for volunteerism or donations.
- Maybe a source of funds through the voting.
- One or more programs (hopefully funny ones) to air on 15.
- Involvment of some companies like Tree House or Mike and Tony's or others that may support MCTV 15 again later.
I'll refine these thoughts as I add to this rough draft later.
Thanks Brendan, this is a good start - John Cumming

Well here it is almost Christmas and not a great deal done besides thinking. As with all ideas, they get mired in real life details. My first thoughts were about the live streaming part... first of all it would take money to buy time for the bandwidth, I thought this might be taken care of by Northland Cable in the form of advertising for it's relatively fledgling internet acess part of it's triple play... but then I realized there is no cable connection between the fair and the cable head north of Yreka. I then thought that two possibilities of solving this problem would be to go to either or both COS Yreka and Walmart to fund the connection and to include the Supervisor Chambers in the stream since it would be enroute. I better get on the ball if this is a possibility since Corporate headquarters of any company do not move quickly.. any thoughts or encouragement out there?
Am I going on a possible quest or am I chasing rainbows?
Things needed: Some idea of the cost of extending the cable.
Who to approach at Walmart, Northland and The Bo S?.
Some kind of Timeframe to do this.
Well that idea went nowhere... The problem with brainstorming by yourself is all you sometimes get is a drizzle. I haven't gotten any feedback nor any offers of volunteering so I think my brainstorming is going to be something a great deal less grandiose. One thing that sounds doable just with me and Yammy and Mossie might be to have the half booth we had a couple of years ago with Northland and take the equipment to vidoetape onto a dvd in short segments and combine them into a program for airing. My thoughts were to have something called Clever or Crockpot? A Soapbox Forum. I am thinking of having just one camera, a soapbox to stand on and a dvd recorder and let people rant and rave about any topic they feel emotional about. I'll give this a bit more thought the next few days.
