Introduction ( 6mins )
- Welcome, outline of show. ( Setting the hooks )
- What is Siskiyou Media Council and how does it relate to MCTV 15?
SMC is the non-profit umbrella organization that oversees public access television production and broadcast in Siskiyou County.
- Our Mission is to encourage and support the use of media to share thoughts, opinions and events, by and for the people of Siskiyou County.
- Public, Education and Government access channel
By nature of the franchise agreements the cities and county have with Northland Cable TV, subscribers pay a franchise fee on their monthly cable bill. Some agencies pass through a portion of these fees in support of public access. We provide 'PEG' operation by nature of our agreements with the cities of Mt. Shasta and Weed. Our contracts with these cities supports our management and growth of public access for the benefit of the communities. Funding from the city of Dunsmuir under community promotion helps to keep their city info up to date on our electronic bulletin board. Pass through of a portion of the franchise fees collected from Northland subscribers living in the county juristiction has been requested from the county and is still under consideration.
- Partnership with COS and the shared facilities
SMC operates under a MOU with the college to share studio space and equipment. Television production classes are offered at COS and participants often choose to volunteer and improve their skills by working on various MCTV 15 and SMC projects.
Livestreaming of Northland programming, info and access to goings on and is a work in progress.
